My artwork explores the themes of cognitive testing and aims to represent how the neurological cognitive assessments that I went through as a result of a brain injury were constraining and limiting to the intellectual and artistic talent that I have. I use a multidisciplinary approach including sculptures, acrylic paint, ceramic, glass blowing and fabric dying. I use all different colour geometric shapes with wood, metal perplex and glass to show that reflects fractures of light. My ambition is continue to explore the themes of brain injury & cognitive assessment through conceptual art practice and to present to the world untapped capacity of people with acquired brain injury.
I first studied various courses at TAFE: Creative Arts, Child care & Disabilities. Over 20 years I studied textiles and made many quilts by hand and machine. I still do sewing today mainly doing dress making. In 2013 was involved with Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and Arts Centre as a volunteer tour guide for five years. I was the recipient of the 2015 & 2016 Accessible Arts Grants over $30,000 in total that allowed me to develop a body of work. During that time I was an artist residency at Hazelhurst. I started to explore and concentrate with glass at Canberra Glassworks, started with workshops & class on demand and still continue today. In 2016 exhibited & presented my work at N.S.W and Australian Aphasia Association Conference. In 2017 my large sculpture ‘Lovers and Dreamers’ was accepted in Harbour Sculpture show at Hunters Hill and Sculpture at Killalea, Shellharbour. In 2018 my new medium with glass sculptures ‘ Our Fallen Stars ‘ was at Hidden Rookwood Cemetery Lidcombe and Shellharbour Civic Council Centre. I was a finalist at the Fishers Ghost Art Prize with sculpture glass ‘Non Sugar Gobstopper Lollipops. ‘ I now based at Timber Mills studio located at Bulli N.S.W.
